HAMILTON + GEORGIEV

Nikolay Georgiev spent his formative years surrounded by literature. His father is a published history writer and poet and his late mother was responsible for Bulgarian National Library requisitions. He often includes the written word in projects and finds learning a new language and phrasing difficult and sometimes curious. These experimental artworks use words and patterns. Nikolay intertwines braids of letters using a vintage typewriter and following his intuition.
He came across the expression ‘close proximity’ which is a commonly used phrase that describes something that is near, when discussing placement in space or time or the status of a relationship but is considered to be by many people a poor use of English grammar.
The word proximity means close or near to, and the addition of the word close is simply repetitive. Language is complex and ever-evolving. English, just like any other language is altered by foreign words and cultural influence. It is fluid and changes over time.
